What are some easy home solutions for eliminating blocked drains pipes in your bathroom? The quickest and best thing to use to undertake the problem is your normal plunger. What’s involved is very clear, cover the drain with the plunger and push. But don’t just shove the plunger into the drainage and start pumping it violently, you could make matters much worse. The most effective procedure to adopt is to cover the drainage completely with the bell-shaped head of the plunger and push down gently, then come up quickly and forcefully creating suction. The suction created with the upward movement will pull back the blockage that is stuck in the drainpipe of your tub, sink or toilet. It should be noted here that some bath tubs and sinks have overflow outlets that must be plugged with a sponge or wet towel before using your plunger if this approach is to work.
Chemical unblocking agents can also be used to dislodge or dissolve clogged matter. This is usually done after you attempt to unplug your drain using your plunger. The chemicals must sit for a while as it eats away at the blockage, then you must run hot water down the drain pipe to flush it out. Wear proper clothes while dealing with chemicals, remember the strong chemicals can fall on your clothes and spoil them so be careful with that. And since plunging can throw water in any direction you might want to consider eye-wear in order to protect you from any chemicals. To avoid unwarranted problems from creeping up, follow the manufacturers instructions ardently.
You can use a pipe wrench or pliers to unscrew the P-trap if you are unable to remove the clog with the plunger, this will give you access to the pipe. Removing the drain pipe trap can release a sudden rush of waste water, so keep a mop and pail handy, put a bucket underneath the p-trap before you disconnect it. Chrome plated fittings can be protected from scratches by taping up the teeth of the pliers or wrench; that should also give you a firmer grip on the nuts of the trap. Once you have removed the P-trap you can inspect the trap thoroughly for any blockage. If you dont find anything on the P-trap, then it means that the problem lies deeper somewhere between the trap and soil stack.
A deep clog in the toilet can be loosened by a toilet auger. If the problem lies in your tub or sink, a plumbers drainage snake will come in handy. The flexible snake wire can be inserted deep into pipework of smaller diameter. Once you have pushed deep enough, rotate the handle to screw and hook into the blockage and slowly draw it out, this should pull the blockage with it. Once, you have taken out the obstruction, re-fix the P-trap and rinse the drain pipe with hot water to make sure that the entire blockage has been removed. Make sure that everything is tight and sealed properly and test the P-trap for leaks.
If the drainpipe is still clogged up after all these measures, or if the problem reoccurs chronically, employ a competent plumber or drains pipes contractor to fix it. It is possible that (due to acts of nature or general wear and tear) clogs in the soil stack or sewer service by vegetation or collapsed pipes will be too big a job and too specialised for the homeowner to do by themselves, you should then call in a company with no call out fee like Dynorod.
