Can I help a Bartholin Gland Cyst rupture and drain at home?
I have a bartholin gland cyst and my doctor said i either live with it or have surgery so I was wondering if anyone has any tips(who know what they are talking about)…as to help it open up and drain on its own without surgery?
That is NOT the kind of thing you do at home without a thoroughly sterile environment and some medical training. A BGC is not like a simple blister, it is a deeper pocket of trapped fluid. Some cysts will resolve on their own, but if it requires surgery (is too painful, gets infected and risks bursting), you will need to let a doctor handle it.
To help treat symptoms, soak in a warm bath a few times a week, and take ibuprofen or Tylenol for discomfort. The only way to drain the fluid and keep it from blocking and filling up again is with a very minor surgery and the insertion of a small temporary catheter in the gland, or gauze or stitches that prevent the gland wall from fully closing for two to three weeks. If you try to drain it yourself, you can introduce bacteria and risk improper healing and an even more painful cyst that follows. Don’t do it. If you’re not having serious pain or discomfort, wait it out and see if it will resolve on its own.
I had a BGC an after about two weeks it ruptured on its own. My gyno told me that it was best to let nature take its course and if I had it for more than a month we would talk about surgical options. The best advice I can give you is to take several soaks a day using warm water and epsom salts. It will relieve some of the pain and hopefully aid in rupturing the cyst. Fair warning though, when it ruptures is will smell horrible, like a dead animal, and there will be alot of pussy fluid!
