Can anyone help me learn Japanese or Korean?
Hi everyone. I am a young lady from Barbados, who resides in New York, and has many goals which I aspire to reach. I am very open minded, nice, spontaneous and would love to diversify myself. I would love to travel to many countries and learn about them, ranging from Africa, to Europe, and to Asia. As of now I have my eyes set mostly on Japan, and then South Korea. I enjoy the culture, language, technology, and scenery of those countries. I would love to do a Study Abroad.
I would like to learn Japanese and Korean. I know VERY minimum of Japanese, but I know some basics and I have the accent down pact.
My question is, how can I learn these languages without being financially drained? What books would you recommend that are very good? What programs are there that might be free that offer these languages? I would not mind meeting someone who is of Japanese or Korean descent, or anyone who is learning or fluent in the language(s) but I am VERY cautious and wary of that.
Thanks!

Hajimemashite! I am also very interested in the Japanese language and culture. The internet is full of great resources for learning a language. I’ve found such helpful guides and tips on:
Also, I just recently purchased Teach Yourself: Japanese by Hellen Ballhatchet Stefan Kaiser. It’s a book/CD combo that covers a great deal in learning the language with all around confidence. It was about $25.00 at Borders and well worth the investment.
Lastly, try looking on meetup.com to see if there are any language-exchange meet-ups in your area. Usually a meet-up would include a group of people in a public place discussing said topic. I hope this helps and good luck!
