Blocked Drainage – A Major Worry!.

Blocked Drainage – A Major Worry!.

We’ve all been there – we’re in the shower, and suddenly we feel the water start to rise up around our feet. A obstructed drain is in action. What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drain pipe!. Everyone hates stopped drains because they not only create problems but are also unhygienic and can create a mess. However, most household bathrooms will experience a clogged up drain pipe at some time and one time or another. The most preferred approach is to prepare ahead of time for such a predicament by educating oneself on how to fix bathroom drainage when the drainpipe pipes become clogged.

First, let’s look at why drainage become blocked and what are the main causes of a stoppage.

Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drain pipe and the pipes are the main cause. The problem aggravates when bathroom products like soap, shampoo, conditioner, detergent, and the like begin to accumulate on the mass. As the mass grows, it restricts the free flow of water, and the drainpipe eventually becomes stopped. When waste water drains very slowly or just stands stubbornly in the washbasin, you know you have a plugged drainpipe problem.

How do you unblock your drainage?.

If you’re facing a obstructed bathroom sink or bath drain pipe problem, there are a couple of different things you can do to get things flowing smoothly again. The first step is to remove the plug whether the blocked drainpipe is in a sink or bathtub. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. For a bath you may be able to simply take out the plug, otherwise you might have to take off the overflow plate in order to get at the assembly.

You may be able to see the clog clearly after the stopper has been taken out. It is very likely to look like a small mass of hair and debris wrapped around the drain’s hardware. Put on a pair of gloves and extract whatever blockages comes within reach. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the blockage or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drain point.

If the blockage cannot be pulled out with the help of the hanger, then you should use other blockage-clearing methods. Use a drain pipe plunger to loosen the blockage that is deeper down the pipework. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drain pipe – this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Then, put the plunger over the drainpipe and push up and down half a dozen times. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.

You can unblock the drains through chemical drain cleaner too if a drainage plunger does not work for you. Chemical Substances should be applied only after all else fails because they are treacherous and can damage your bathroom hardware.

Bring in the Pros for a professional drains solution.

If the above methods fail to solve your obstructed drainpipe problem then you may have to contact a plumber. A professional plumber should quickly solve your problem with his special tools and equipment. It may cost you, but you will find it is worth the money once you can use your sink and shower worry free.
